Samsung Z1 – First Smartphone from Samsung to run Tizen OS

Last Updated: May 19, 2015

After lots of leaks, news and rumours the Samsung company’s first Tizen phone is now announced yesterday, 14th January 2015.
<img src=”” border=”0″ alt=”Samsung z1 specs” />
Back in December we knew to expect it this month, but with no exact release date; however, today, it becomes official. There was a lot of speculation behind the phone (and Samsung’s move), with the general consensus being that Samsung is testing the waters with its own OS, Tizen OS, in its move to have a backup plan and/or try to reduce its dependency on Google’s Android mobile platform (which it leads, by the way, in terms of market share among Android device manufacturers).
<!–

For the moment, the Samsung Z1 has been announced only for India (a country where lower-end, budget
phones are very popular), where it will go for NR 5,700 (roughly $92), in White, Black and Wine Red.
The platform of choice is Tizen, which Samsung calls a “lightweight platform”, and as such, “the Samsung Z1 delivers a faster boot time and quick access to apps, along with enhanced web performance to offer users faster
page loading times with decreased data usage.”
The Samsung Z1 features modest specs, including a four-inch WVGA screen, 1.2 GHz Dual Core Processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage (expandable), and a pair of 3.1MP/VGA shooters for back, and front, respectively. Everything is powered by an 1,500mAh battery, while the usual suspects include WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 2.0, and GPS.
Of course, being a Tizen 2.3 phone, we can’t really judge its internals or compare them to Android devices yet.
